As part of the New Ross Christmas
programme, Christmas Wishes is now open.
The shop is a collaboration of local crafts
and artists who make their goods locally and sell them locally. Over the next month, the shop will be open at
the weekends and then open all week in the last run up to Xmas. Located at 51 South Street, the shop brings
to life all the atmosphere and spirit of the community this Christmas.
Speaking at the launch, Michael Sheehan
added, “I’m delighted to see the indoor market take shape and to see it take
off. Christmas Wishes is an integral part of our Xmas programme. Our group, the New Ross Christmas community
have been meeting since October and have a range of different activities over
the next few weeks that will give New Ross a boost the Christmas spirit and to
encourage people to stay and shop local this year. I would like to congratulate the committee
for opening the shop and especially to Dawn Morley and Annette Byrne who have
taken the lead with this project.”
The project will run right up to Christmas
and anyone interested in taking a place should contact Dawn Morley in Craft
Central to book this place, but hurry as places are becoming limited. Talking
at the launch, Dawn Morley said that she is delighted to see the Craft Store
open. “As a business woman and craft
worker, Christmas Wishes is an ideal spot for people to advertise and sell
their products, keeping the business local and the jobs local. It’s something
that is badly needed in town and something that we can build on into the
future.”
Christmas Wishes will be open every weekend
and the last week right up to Christmas and people can come in, see and sample
the very best of what New Ross has to offer.
With the support of Wexford County Council and the Brandon House Hotel
and the voluntary efforts of the committee,
we have created something that can be built upon; It is all about
keeping the business local and therefore keeping the jobs local—that means a
stronger New Ross—something we all wish for.
